After years of waiting, fans finally have a title and release window for the bad sequel they've been waiting for. That's right, Space Jam 2 will officially be called Space Jam: A New Legacy, which was revealed by Lebron James on Instagram before an official logo was released. It's good news for fans of the Looney Tunes and basketball players but if you're someone who expects quality from their movies, you definitely won't find it here.
Sorry, am I being too negative? I loved Space Jam as a kid too but one rewatch in college made me realize this movie was really bad and now fans are excited about a sequel? Give me a break.
Why they went for A New Legacy as the title makes sense since movies with numbers in the end just don't sell anymore. It's why Marvel Studios only let Iron Man stay numbered while other movies ended up having other titles with them. A New Legacy also makes sense since Lebron is basically the Michael Jordan of this generation so seeing him team up with Bugs Bunny is basically his birthright.
It's hard to believe that the original Space Jam came out 25 years ago when Michael Jordan and Bugs Bunny were the biggest stars in the world. No joke, the two appeared in a ton of well-received commercials together, which is what led to the movie happening. Humble beginnings am I right?
Space Jam: A New Legacy will be hitting theaters sometime in 2021.
