Sony Hires S.J. Clarkson to Develop Female-Centric Spider-Verse Film

Sony is pretty much squeezing what they can from the Spider-Man IP and we've been getting news that there are plans to develop a woman-centric Spider-Verse spinoff. What's interesting is, Sony may have found someone to be at the helm.

According to Variety, Jessica Jones and Defenders director S.J. Clarkson has signed on to develop the "first female-centric movie from Sony's catalog of Marvel characters." We have no idea which character is going to be at the center, but insiders suggest that it could be about Madame Web.

If you ask me though, I think it's more possible that we could get something centered on Spider-Gwen. She came out as a fan-favorite in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and she is probably the most popular female character now as compared to MJ. Besides that, I think other characters that are worth covering are either Silk or Jessica Drew's Spider-Woman. Going back to Madame Web, I think she's more of a supporting character to the Spider-Verse and can't really be at the center of a film.

Then again, this is all just speculation on my part for now. Hopefully, Sony announces something official down the line; we're lucky if we get something before the year ends. In the meantime, I think all the focus is going to be going toward the promotion of Venom 2, Morbius, Spider-Man 3, and the sequel to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

The next movie in Sony's SMUC is Morbius, and it comes out on March 19, 2021.
