Sonic the Hedgehog Director was Worried About Fan Reaction to Redesign

There is little doubt that the redesign of Sonic the Hedgehog was a great success that truly pleased fans of the blue speedster. However, it looks like Jeff Fowler wasn't so confident about how people would react to the new Sonic at first. The director has just admitted that he was worried that the redesign would only cause more backlash.

Fowler recently spoke to Digital Spy about the upcoming film and the first-time director confessed that he had concerns about not being able to please the fans.

"I think it had been about five months that had passed since the first trailer. We had worked very hard on our updates to the character. It was definitely a little bit of like, ‘Oh man, what happens if they don't like this?'" he said.

That sounds like a nightmare indeed. Luckily, Fowler had some encouragement from those who were seeing the redesign before the new trailer was dropped.

"Everyone that saw it internally as I was working on the film, just responded so positively. It really felt like, once we shared it with the fans, they would really embrace it and be excited about it," he said.

We're glad that Fowler had the support and great advice of the people around him. After all, this would mean we'll be getting a Sonic that looks and sounds just like the beloved Sega game character in the upcoming movie.

Sonic the Hedgehog is scheduled for release on February 14.
