Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Spin Dashes to a 2022 Release

Moving around at the speed of sound didn't stop the first Sonic the Hedgehog movie from becoming a surprise box office success that also managed to gain a number of fans. While not completely faithful to the video game, it did have plenty of smart jokes and cool moments that made it an entertaining ride so we can't wait for the sequel with Tails. Paramount is trying to stay ahead of the curve as they announced Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for a 2022 release date.

Deadline stated that the sequel would be coming out on April 8, 2022, with Sonic actor Ben Schwartz later confirming the news on his Twitter. Going for a 2022 release is a pretty smart move since no one knows if 2021 will be a great year for people and is already jam-packed with movies that were supposed to come out this year.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was obviously coming, given how well it did in the box office and the surprising fan reaction to it. While some claim that it's merely a good movie with Sonic the Hedgehog in it, the fact that the reviews were solid for a video game film was enough to call it a success. Also, it made money so how could Paramount not want a sequel?

Here's hoping that Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will actually come out in 2022 and keep that name. It's a fitting one since the video game of the same name was when many considered Sonic to be a success story and introduced Tails, who will likely play a big role in the movie sequel.
