Sonic The Hedgehog 2 has Started Filming

It's been a long wait but the sequel to Sonic The Hedgehog is finally in the works. It has just been confirmed that Sonic 2 has started production.

Director Jeff Fowler announced the production start in a post on his official Twitter account. The image confirms the sequel's official title as well. Check it out below.

"Lights, camera, hedgehog. Production on Sonic the Hedgehog 2 starts TODAY!" Fowler wrote. He also added the hashtag #SonicMovie2.

This is great news considering that fans were concerned that the sequel would be delayed like the first movie. However, it looks like the studio has learned from its past mistakes and we'll be seeing Sonic The Hedgehog 2 soon.

The first Sonic movie was initially set for release in November 2019. However, fans weren't pleased with the film's original design for the video game character that was revealed earlier that year. Paramount Pictures then decided to give Sonic a major redesign that would delay the movie's release to 2020.

Luckily, fans were delighted to see the new Sonic in the first film and the movie went on to earn $319.7 million worldwide. Sonic was the sixth-highest-grossing film of 2020 as well as the highest-grossing video game film adaptation of all time in North America.

The premise of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is still a mystery. However, fans can rest assured that the sequel will introduce Sonic's friends Tails and Knuckles. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is currently in production. The film is scheduled for release on April 8, 2022.
