Fans will again see Son Ye Jin on the small screen with JTBC’s newest K-drama, Thirty-Nine. As she will play the role of a woman about to turn 40, some can’t help but ask why she chooses this project.
Son Ye Jin answers all fans’ questions in mind about Thirty-Nine. As one of the most sought-after actresses in South Korea, what makes her accept this show?
The Reason Son Ye Jin Accepts Doing Thirty-Nine
“I liked the script that sufficiently expressed life, existence, death, love, and the joys and sorrows of life,” she said, via Soompi.
The series is about three women who have been friends since their second year of high school and are about to turn 40. The show will tell the everyday lives of Cha Mi Jo (Son Ye Jin), Jang Joo Hee (Kim Ji Hyun) and Jung Chan Young (Jeon Mi Do).
Cha Mi Jo is the head dermatologist of a clinic in Gangnam, while Jung Chan Young is an acting teacher who dreams of being an actress. Lastly, Jang Joo Hee is the department store cosmetics manager.
Despite their successful careers and fulfilled lives, unfortunate events are about to happen.

Now that she is 40 years old herself, Hyun Bin’s girlfriend revealed she empathized with how the three women shared their thoughts and worried about their age. So how did the Crash Landing on You star plan to portray her role?
“I approached [the role] thinking that she looks a bit cold and might be more rational than me,” she said. “However, I felt limited in expressing her only as a character, so I started filming while thinking, ‘I’m Cha Mi Jo.'”
As she slowly learned more about her character, Son Ye Jin admitted liking her lines and scenes. She would even save new music on her playlist that suits the drama to get into the mood.
Talking about Cha Mi Jo’s style, The Negotiation star revealed she added “chicness and cuteness” to her character’s fashion “without losing basic femininity.”
She then promoted Thirty-Nine by saying it would never go against fans’ expectations. “It includes a good script, great staff, and amazing actors. As much as you have been waiting, you won’t regret it, so please look forward to it.”
Son Ye Jin Thirty-Nine New Teaser
Meanwhile, JTBC has dropped a new teaser for Son Ye Jin’s Thirty-Nine, giving a good look at the three women’s friendship.
“[To say that we’re] friends who are like family wouldn’t even [describe it],” Cha Mi Jo narrates.
However, everything will change when they hear the word “death.” Cha Mi Jo can't believe the truth as tears start to fall on Jang Joo Hee’s face.
Later, Jung Chang Young is suffering in great pain, while Cha Mi Jo faints.

“While we’re together, are we going to have fun or be seriously sad?” Cha Mi Jo can be heard saying. “Be the terminally ill patient with the most exciting [life].”
The clip ends with the tree watching the falling snow with Kim Sun Woo (Yeon Woo Jin), Kim Jin Seok (Lee Moo Saeng), and Park Hyun Joon (Lee Tae Hwan).
