Solo: A Star Wars Story’s Beats Black Panther In Ticket Presales

Solo: A Star Wars Story might have had trouble during production last year, but it looks like Lucasfilm's new spinoff is ready to break a few records.

Advanced tickets for Solo went on sale on Friday last week and according to Fandango (via The Independent), Han Solo's standalone movie managed to double Black Panther's presale earnings during the first 24 hours of its opening. That's the second-best first day presales of 2018. Though Solo still trails behind the earnings of Avengers: Infinity War, unseating Black Panther is already a feat in itself.

Marvel's first predominantly-black superhero movie, Black Panther enjoyed both commercial and critical success when it was released earlier this year. The film was also the highest advanced ticket-selling film of all time – well until Infinity War that is.

Now it's been knocked off its seat again, this time by Solo: A Star Wars Story.

If advanced ticket sales are an indicator of commercial success, Solo might actually do pretty well at the box office this year. Sure the film might have lost its original directors to "creative differences," however it seems like Ron Howard's managed to assuage the fanbase's anxiety with great promotional material for the Star Wars spinoff.

Let's hope that the film lives up to the hype.

Solo: A Star Wars Story flies into cinemas on May 25, 2018.
