Ron Howard: There are Still No Plans for Sequels to Solo A Star Wars Story

When news came out that Alden Ehrenreich was signed up to play Han Solo in three movies, everyone immediately thought that Lucasfilm was planning a Solo trilogy. According to Solo director Ron Howard, the sequels have not actually been planned at all.

Talking with Fandango, Howard explained:

"I think the fans are going to define all of that. I mean I think that Lucasfilm and Disney in casting actors, and particularly younger actors, want to see what happens and build upon that. Certainly, they want the commitment from the young actors, but there are no concrete plans. I think there's been a lot of creative energy and now marketing energy going behind this movie."

So far, some very vocal fans have been expressing their distaste for the film for several reasons; either Ehrenreich isn't Harrison Ford enough, or Han's origin was unnecessary. I guess we'll just all have to wait and see how everyone reacts once Solo hits theaters. Everyone hated Heath Ledger for Joker, but after The Dark Knight, his Joker became one of the most iconic incarnations of the character ever.

I would actually be open to seeing more of this version of Han on the big screen. Just based on the trailers, I think Ehrenreich has that natural charisma, and I bet some people are going to eat their words once they see his Han in the movie. If there isn't going to be a Solo trilogy though, I can imagine Han appearing in a Boba Fett film or maybe a story put inbetween the events of the original trilogy.

Solo: A Star Wars Story comes out May 25.
