Solo: A Star Wars Story Script Confirms Connection to the Holiday Special

Any hardcore Star Wars fan who's watched Solo: A Star Wars Story knows that there are multiple references to the expanded universe—even references from the defunct Legends material as well. A new leak on Reddit confirms the canon name of Chewbacca's father, which was revealed back in the Star Wars Holiday Special.

Check it out:

Chewie's father is Attichitcuk (from Holiday Special)! It was confirmed in Solo's bonus material.

In the Holiday Special, Attichitcuck is shortened to "Itchy", much like Chewbacca is "Chewie."

Apparently, Jon and Larry Kasdan had written the script so that Chewbacca's lines are actually written out. It would be interesting to see Chewie actually talk with subtitles, but I think it's part of the character's charm that we just have everyone else react to what he says.

Though Solo didn't really make a big splash at the box office, it no doubt has gotten such a great reception from the fanbase. If anything, the film underperforming can be attributed to it coming out so close to box office heavy-hitters like Deadpool 2 and Avengers: Infinity War. Not to mention there's a rumor going around that Disney purposefully watered down the marketing for Solo so it wouldn't distract audiences from the arrival of Thanos.

Personally, I thought the movie was pretty great. With the grandiose scale that Star Wars usually covers, Solo gives us an idea of a much larger world apart from the conflict between the Rebellion and the Empire.

Hopefully, the home release sales will convince Lucasfilm to take another jab at the Star Wars criminal underworld. It would be amazing to see Alden Ehrenreich, Emilia Clarke, Joonas Suotamo, and Donald Glover return for a sequel.

Solo: A Star Wars Story is now available on digital and will come to Blu-Ray on Sept. 25.
