Snowdrop serves as the first project between Jung Hae In and BLACKPINK Jisoo, but it immediately suffered from criticisms after airing its first two episodes.

This month, JTBC officially unveiled the first episodes of the highly-anticipated drama about a young university student (Jisoo) and a North Korean spy (Jung Hae In), which the BLACKPINK member's character mistakes for a pro-democracy activist. However, its first two episodes suffered a backlash that eventually led people to file a petition to stop the broadcast of the series.

After a few weeks, Snowdrop emerged as the victor as a court ruled in favor of the show.

South Korean Court's Verdict on Snowdrop Revealed

On Wednesday, the Seoul Western District Court dismissed the injunction request against the TV series. Thus, it still has the rights to continue airing the episodes as scheduled.

According to the court, Snowdrop is implausible to mislead the viewers about South Korea's history of the pro-democracy movement. With that, they decided to reject the request.

"Even if 'Snowdrop' is based on a distorted historical viewpoint as claimed by the complaint, it is difficult to believe that viewers will blindly accept it," the court said.

The verdict also mentioned that the civic group who filed the petition does not have the rights to seek an injunction on behalf of the general public. It is worth noting that they made an online petition and collected more than 200,000 signatures more than a week ago.

Snowdrop Impresses More Despite Backlash

Despite the recent issue, Snowdrop rose stronger in its most recent episodes.

Nielsen Korea revealed that the series' episode 5 earned a 2.751 percent rating based on pay TV households across the country. It surpassed the previous number episode 4 recorded on December 25, having a 1.689 percent rating that became the lowest nationwide points it scored since its premiere.

Meanwhile, its first two episodes – the subject of criticisms – got 2.985 percent and 3.898 percent, respectively.
