Smart Hulk was Supposed to be the Last Active Hero in Avengers: Endgame

Marvel fans might not know this but in previous versions of Joe and Anthony Russo's Avengers: Endgame, Smart Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) was supposed to be the last action hero after Thanos' (Josh Brolin) Decimation.

Marvel just recently released The Art of Avengers: Endgame and along with the book's different concept art of the film's heroes, villains, weapons, ships, and background settings are various little fun facts about Endgame.

According to Screen Rant, a section of The Art of Avengers: Endgame showcases the various designs that the film's creative team considered in the process of developing Smart Hulk. Not only do we get to see the character's alternative streetwear, but we also get to see different versions of his superhero suit as well.

Marvel's Ryan Meinerding was responsible for the concept behind Hulk's new look, and in the book, the artist revealed that one idea that had been presented was for Hulk to act as the last superhero in Endgame.

"I was trying to come up with a design for him that was a Super Hero look - the idea being that all the Super Heroes, after Infinity War, were gone, so Hulk's the only one left. He would actually be doing the job of all of the Avengers, and you would see him feel like a true, amazing Super Hero - and that costume was meant to elucidate that point," the artists revealed, "Whether it screams it or not, there is an H on his chest. I worked it in there subtly - but if you know it's there and you know to look for it, you can see it pretty easily."

That's a pretty interesting detail. Instead of becoming the last active hero, we get to see Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) handle the Avengers headquarters while working with heroes like Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) and War Machine (Don Cheadle). Meanwhile, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) was off sulking in New Asgard, Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) was spending his time as a family man, and Bruce Banner was turning himself into professor Hulk.

Avengers: Endgame is currently available on Digital HD, Blu-Ray, and DVD.
