Smallville Actor Michael Rosenbaum Almost Starred in James Gunn's The Suicide Squad

Michael Rosenbaum has been linked to James Gunn for quite a while, with fans really liking how he played a classic Guardian in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. It turns out that the Smallville actor almost teamed up with Gunn again as Rosenbaum recently revealed that he almost had a starring role in The Suicide Squad. Unfortunately, he had to back out due to more than understandable reasons, though he was a good sport and didn't spoil his character.

Speaking with ComicBook.com, Rosenbaum said he had to turn the role down since he needed to get neck surgery and didn't want to do anything too physically taxing. Considering how comic book movies like this need fight scenes, we can see why the actor decided not to take the role. He didn't indicate if it was a major role or if he would just die, like a lot of characters will, but Rosenbaum is a professional for not spoiling it.

"Let's just say I was supposed to be in it, but I had neck surgery and I couldn't do a role. I couldn't do the roll because it was too physical at that time, and I couldn't jeopardize my neck, but there was, there was the role. I won't say the role, but there was the role. James is always so gracious and kind and reached out and so I think when the time's right, look it's nice when your friends think of you, it's nice when your friends have a part."

We're sure Rosenbaum and Gunn will work together again. The actor recently showed interest in appearing on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, though others are hoping that his crew with Sylvester Stalone gets its own movie. We'll have to wait and see.

The Suicide Squad is currently scheduled for an August 6, 2021, release date.
