Smallville Actor John Schneider Explains Gun Couldn't Misfire Itself Contrary to Alec Baldwin's Claims

The whole world was shocked at what happened in the set of Rust where cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was fatally shot and director Joel Souza was wounded when Alec Baldwin’s prop gun fired. However, contrary to the claims of the actor, Smallville star John Schneider explains that the gun used couldn’t misfire itself without Baldwin pulling the trigger.

Schneider posted a video on YouTube explaining that the gun used by Alec Baldwin could not have misfired itself like what the actor claims in an interview and that the trigger must have been pulled to dislodge a bullet that took one life and injured another.

In the video, Schneider holds a Colt .45 revolver which is similar to the gun that was discharged by Baldwin on the set of Rust. Schneider continued to explain the mechanics of the gun educating his viewers of its parts and highlighting the importance of gun safety.

According to Schneider, the Colt .45 is what is considered a single-action weapon which means that it cannot be fired without the trigger being pulled. He said, “In order for this to fire, you’ve got to pull [the hammer] all the way back [and] pull the trigger. There is some thought that Alec was fanning, if I fan [the hammer] it’s going to stick there unless I have my finger on the trigger.”

Schneider added, “That’s how a single-action weapon works. You can’t accidentally pull the trigger, if you have your finger on the trigger, and you fan it, it will go, because it’s the trigger that releases that catch right there.” He asserted that the claims of Baldwin that he did not pull the trigger is hard to believe, “So, the notion that this weapon could go off without somebody pulling the trigger is really hard to believe.”

Schneider reiterated, “This is not a gun that fell on the ground. This is not a gun [that] even if I fanned it. Remember, if I fan it and my finger is not on the trigger, nothing’s going to happen,” again reiterating that “the only way that goes down is if I pull the trigger.” In conclusion, Schneider does not believe the testimony of Baldwin.

Alec Baldwin recently had an interview with ABC News where he gave some information about what happened on that fateful day where he claims he was assured that the gun wasn’t charged and that he did not even pull the trigger saying that it was just a shot completely incidental and may not appear in the movie.

Recently, a lawsuit was filed against Baldwin, and the lawyer of Mamie Mitchell, script supervisor of the film Rust, accused Baldwin of “playing Russian Roulette” while on the set and that the actor did not check the gun. Also, it was revealed that the script of the film did not even require that the gun would be fired.
