Alec Baldwin Shooting: Brandon Lee's Family Issues Statement After Fatal Set Accident

It has been a long time since there has been a huge tragedy on the set of a major film. However, it happened this week on the New Mexico set of Rust. Alec Baldwin "discharged" a prop firearm that killed the cinematographer and injured the director. Now the late Brandon Lee's family is speaking out about the accident that is tragically similar to what happened on the set of The Crow.

The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that Baldwin had "discharged" the prop firearm that killed the Rust director of photography Halyna Hutchins. Director Joel Souza was also hit and is currently in critical condition. The incident is being investigated by detectives from the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Department.

It's a terrible tragedy and nobody understands it more than Lee's family who had dealt with a similar accident on the set of The Crow. "Our hearts go out to the family of Halyna Hutchins and to Joel Souza and all involved in the incident on "Rust". No one should ever be killed by a gun on a film set. Period," their statement read.

Back in 1993, Lee was fatally shot on the set of The Crow when a live round was mistakenly loaded into a prop gun. Like Hutchins, the son of Bruce Lee was rushed to the hospital but was later pronounced dead after six hours in surgery.

Lee's death was declared an accident but it had a lasting effect on Michael Massee, who fired the prop gun. Massee was traumatized by the incident and decided to take a year-long break from acting. He refused to watch The Crow and passed away in 2016 without ever seeing the film.

Alec Baldwin has not been charged for the incident on the set of Rust. However, the set is currently under investigation. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
