Following the recent release date announcement, Toei Animation has finally given us our first look at the film with the release of the first Slam Dunk movie teaser trailer.
The teaser was released on the Toei Animation YouTube Channel. While only 19 seconds long, the teaser does give us our first glimpse at the upcoming Slam Dunk anime film featuring the main characters.
Officially entitled THE FIRST SLAM DUNK, the movie features 3DCG animation. While the CG animation for the movie has been revealed before, this trailer gives us our first look at the film’s visual style.
The new trailer also confirms the appearance of Sakuragi Hanamichi, Kaede Rukawa, Takenori Akagi, Ryota Miyagi, and Hisashi Mitsui of the Shohoku High School basketball team. For this movie, the main characters sport updated styles.
Alongside the trailer, the official character posters for the five main characters have also been released by Toei. These posters give fans a better view of the Shohoku High members.
Slam Dunk is a hit sports manga series that was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from October 1990 to June 1996. The manga received an anime series adaptation which ran for 101 episodes from October 1993 to March 1996.
Along with the anime series, Slam Dunk also got four anime film adaptations which were released from 1994 to 1995.
The series follows Hanamichi Sakuragi, a delinquent who is introduced to the Shohoku High School basketball team by his crush, Haruko Akagi.
There, Sakuragi proves to be a capable basketball player, and he continues to play in the hopes of getting closer to Akagi, that is until he grows to love the sport as well.
THE FIRST SLAM DUNK will release on December 3, 2022, in cinemas across Japan. Currently, there’s no word yet on an international release date for the Slam Dunk movie.
