Simu Liu Criticizes Moon Knight's Controversial Mandarin-Speaking Scene

There's no denying that fans are generally pleased with Marvel Studios' latest Disney+ offering Moon Knight and with just two episodes, viewers are already invested and drawn into the show's complex and compelling story, not to mention its magnetic characters. However, the Oscar Isaac-led series was on the receiving end of a major backlash on social media following the release of its second episode.

A scene from Episode 2, titled "Summon the Suit" that sees Ethan Hawke's villainous character Arthur Harrow speak Mandarin has been the subject of controversy online as of late. Apparently, a lot of people found his dialogue offensive not because of the words he uttered but by the way he delivered his dialogue. On Twitter, fans, especially those of Chinese descent blasted Marvel Studios over the Mandarin language being butchered in the show.

MCU actor Simu Liu is also expressing his dismay over the now-controversial scene. Taking to Twitter, the Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings star and Asian rights advocate said: "Alright Arthur Harrow needs to fire his Mandarin teacher". It's safe to say that Liu wasn't impressed by it. Check out the tweet below:

As it stands, Marvel Studios has yet to release an official statement addressing the issue. But don't be surprised if the said scene gets altered or even removed thanks to the backlash it's currently getting. I'm pretty sure it was unintentional and I hope everyone involved learned something from it. You don't just feature a foreign language only to butcher it.

The first two episodes of Marvel Studios' Moon Knight are now streaming on Disney+.
