Christmas-themed action projects are always fun to watch and the genre is making its return with John Woo's Silent Night flick coming just in time for the holidays this year!

Distraught after having lost his only son, Godlock (Joel Kinnaman) goes on a hunting spree the night before Christmas, targeting the very gang behind the gunfire in his own backyard.

While there is little known about how the film is going to go, it is presumed to be a nearly silent film, given that Godlock also lost his voice that same day of the incident.

However, there is the matter of the age rating guide of whether or not John Woo's Silent Night film will be suitable for your kids to watch.

Here's everything you need to know before going to theaters this December 1, 2023, for the Lionsgate film.

The least expected genre to watch for the holidays is a gruesome tragic story about a father who ends up taking bloody revenge against the gang who killed their son near Christmas day.

Considering that the Lionsgate film is an American action thriller flick, you might want to double-check the rating before deciding to watch this with your kids.

Don't let the grim Christmas tune and jingle bell necklace fool you into thinking it's a family-themed film. One seemingly normal morning led to the tragedy of Godlock losing not only his son's life but his own voice.

This revenge-centric story pretty much tells you all you need to know about what to expect from the John Woo-helmed film.

It is worth mentioning that director John Woo is known for his prominent action films such as A Better Tomorrow and Mission: Impossible 2, which should give you a clue as to what kind of film Silent Night will turn out to be.

Now, as for the age rating of the action thriller film, Silent Night has been rated 'R' by MPA for strong bloody violence, drug use, some sexual nudity scenes, and language.

Silent Night marks Woo's first Hollywood film after six years, and it's actually a 'movie without dialogue', as he recently told Vulture about the inner workings of making it:

"Very interesting movie. The whole movie is without dialogue. It allowed me to use visuals to tell the story, to tell how the character feels. We are using music instead of language. And the movie is all about sight and sound. The budget was a little tight, and the schedule was tight, but it made me change my working style."

The short answer is obviously no. As you can observe from the trailer, the involvement of guns and blood wouldn't be appropriate for any kids to watch in theaters.

Notably, any R-rated movies are strictly forbidden for children under the age of 17 to watch, even if they have their parents by their side. The mature scenes could potentially traumatize them and inflict misconceived notions about violence.

The John Wick franchise had had its share of being rated 'R', too, given the same 'strong bloody violence' portrayed in the films all throughout, especially with the use of guns and physical harm towards the retired assassin's targets.
