Sigourney Weaver confirmed recently that she has joined the cast of the highly-anticipated The Mandalorian & Grogu movie.
A while ago, it was reported that the iconic actress had been cast in the upcoming Star Wars movie in a mysterious role. At that time, Lucasfilm did not comment on her involvement in the project.
Weaver's Star Wars casting got a lot of fans excited as it marks another involvement for her in a major science-fiction franchise and there have been speculations on what kind of character will she play in the film.
Sigourney Weaver Confirms The Mandalorian & Grogu Role
In a recent interview, Weaver confirmed that she has a role in The Mandalorian & Grogu and is currently filming the project.
While she didn't reveal the details of the character that she is playing, she teased that she already met Grogu on the set.
"I'm playing a role in The Mandalorian & Grogu. I got to meet Grogu for the first time the other day. I'm filming that before I go to London for [the play] The Tempest at the end of the year," the actress said.
This is Weaver's first public acknowledgment of her role in the upcoming Star Wars movie, and it is exciting to hear that she has finally confirmed her involvement.
She is undoubtedly a welcome addition to the franchise given her iconic works in the past and she always elevates the material she's in, especially in a genre project where she usually excels.
While we don't know yet what role she will play, we can safely say that Weaver will have a pivotal role in the film given her stature and she will be crossing paths with Grogu at some point.
The Mandalorian & Grogu is slated for release in theaters on May 22, 2026.
