Anime fans who dream of making an anime are getting a chance to do so. That’s because Shonen Jump+ announced a partnership with Netflix for a contest where creators can get their ideas made into an anime.

This contest was announced by World Maker, the storyboard creation app by Shonen Jump+. Here, fans can submit their storyboard and art. The winner will get their project turned into a Netflix anime.

Shonen Jump’s new contest is the latest in Shueisha’s new projects aimed at developing more works in other fields.

When it comes to manga, Shonen Jump, by the publisher, Shueisha, is one of the biggest names. This is because the magazine is home to lots of globally renowned series like One Piece, My Hero Academia, and Jujutsu Kaisen.

Over the years, Jump has expanded not just to anime, but also to various fields. For instance, the online-only Shonen Jump+ manga service was launched back in 2014, and it has since produced big titles like Spy x Family.

Along with anime and web manga, Shonen Jump is also expanding its games lineup. Many Jump franchises already have game adaptations, but the imprint is working on a crossover mobile game titled JUMP: Assemble.

Then there’s Shueisha’s Jump Toon, an upcoming vertical manga service that is set to launch sometime in 2024.

As its name implies, Jump Toon will be Shueisha’s expansion into the Webtoon category, a field that originated in Korea and has become a massive comic platform.

Now, Jump is gearing up for a new anime project in partnership with Netflix, but it’s not for one of its existing franchises.

Instead, Jump+ through its World Maker app is giving budding creators a chance to get their work animated in a new contest.

How it works is that fans can submit their storyboards through World Maker. This storyboard must be made for an anime short that’s around 10 minutes in length.

The winning storyboard will be turned into an anime by Netflix, and its creator will get a JPY 500,000 prize (around USD 3,300). Other shortlisted candidates will get Amazon gift certificates.

Interested participants must take note that the contest will only be for original stories and characters that have not yet appeared in any commercial work.

Entries can be submitted now until January 8, 2024. More information can be found on the official website.

The contest site is only available in Japanese, but the rules state that the contest accepts entries by creators from all over the world.
