Shazam! Nabs One Of The Highest CinemaScores In The DCEU

Shazam! may have just recently hit cinemas this weekend but it looks like the comic book movie is already flying high with an "A" Cinema Score on its chest.

Zachary Levi's debut in the DC Extended Universe as everyone's favorite Captain Thunder is proving a critical success. Not only is the film proudly sitting on a 92% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, but it's also received an A from Cinema Score – a major win since this is the DCEU's third A since Gal Gadot first standalone Wonder Woman movie and ever since the franchise's first entry, Man of Steel.

Shazam! just made its way to cinemas yesterday, yet audiences are already taking to social media and calling the film a major hit for DC. This should help bring up the film's opening weekend haul. A month or so before the film's release, Shazam! was projected to have the lowest opening in the DCEU with analysts expecting the film to gross upwards of $40 million at the domestic box office during its opening weekend.

However, the projections have since increased with the film gaining strong and positive word of mouth. Right now Shazam! has $5.9 million in the North American box office thanks to preview sales. The projected numbers have increased from $40 million to around $55 million at the domestic box office – something that could very well increase as the film continues its first few days in cinemas.

While $55 million may still sit down below Aquaman's $67.8 million, fans ought to remember that Jason Momoa's first standalone film also had the lowest DCEU opening only to go on and become the highest earning film in the franchise.

Shazam is currently screening in cinemas.
