Shazam!: John Cena Rumored To Be One Of The Frontrunners For Lead Role

With Dwayne Johnson set to be playing Black Adam for the DCEU, I was guessing that WB would have wanted to hire another wrestler for the role of Captain Marvel a.k.a. Shazam. It looks like some other people were guessing the same thing as rumors have suggested that John Cena is up for the role of Billy Batson's super alter ego.

According to the Hashtag Show, Cena is one of the frontrunners for the lead role of Shazam!. It's also worth noting that Gallavant actor Joshua Sasse is also being considered for the lead. Director David F. Sandberg has also confirmed that they will be casting a younger actor to play Billy Batson, but there hasn't been any update on who is being considered. Maybe the movie will pull off a Flashpoint and have Shazam be a collection of many different kids?

With the attention that Cena is getting lately, WB may be confident in moving forward with him in the lead. Considering his history—as well as The Rock's—in wrestling, a lot of people would want to watch the clash between Black Adam and Shazam should Cena get the role.

Based on the DC Comics character Shazam! Billy Batson becomes Captain Marvel, the world's mightiest mortal, when he says the magic word ‘Shazam!' The name is an acronym for six gods and heroes of the ancient world as well as their attributes. The wisdom of Solomon, strength of Hercules, stamina of Atlas, power of Zeus, courage of Achilles and speed of Mercury.

Shazam! is set to come out April 5, 2019.
