Shazam 2 Projected to Have Disappointing Opening Weekend Box Office

Shazam! Fury of the Gods is set to arrive in theaters in just a couple of weeks and DC fans are looking forward to seeing what's next for the titular hero's next journey as he is now going to face a bigger threat this time around with the Daughters of Atlas.

With all the upcoming changes that are coming in the DCU franchise, there have been questions about the potential box office results of the sequel considering that the first film only grossed $366.1 million although it was against a smaller budget than most films in the franchise.

As we're heading to its release soon, the box office projection for Shazam! Fury of the Gods has started to emerge and it looks like it might receive disappointing opening weekend results according to the latest forecast from Box Office Pro.

The sequel is projected to earn between $43 to 52 million during its opening weekend. While it will be leading the charts, it is also lower than the first film which had an opening weekend box office of $53.5 million back in 2019 and it will be one of the lowest in DCEU history.

This is certainly concerning since it is a sign that the film could have lower box office results than the first film and it could be underwhelming at the end which might indicate that the audience is not interested to see the remaining DCEU films that don't have higher stakes like The Flash.

However, it should also be pointed out that it is still early and the projections could go higher or lower depending on the film's buzz in the coming weeks if they can gain more interest from the audience in their marketing campaign leading up to its release.

Let's wait and see whether the forecast will end up being true or surprise us by overperforming or maybe a worse performance than what we anticipated. Only time can tell for now.
