Shazam 2 Star Reveals Past Marvel Audition Prior to Joining DC

Nowadays, comic book movie roles have become sought-after amongst actors in Hollywood. After all, there is a likelihood of big exposure when you have a major role in one of these films and it could propel you to stardom just like what Marvel has done to Chris Hemsworth and DC with the likes of Gal Gadot.

We've also heard stories of actors almost nabbing a role in either Marvel or DC before they eventually got the part in the other comic book franchise instead. While that type of situation is normal to actors now, it is still a great what-if situation as it asks what would have happened if they got the first role instead.

One of the actors that got to experience it is Shazam! Fury of the Gods star Grace Caroline Currey, who plays Mary Bloomfield, as she revealed in an interview with The Direct that she actually auditioned to play Jean Grey in the X-Men films (which ended up being played by Sophie Turner) before joining the DCEU.

"You know, I auditioned for X-Men back in the day for Jean Grey. Yeah, to play young Jean Grey, which Sophie Turner… did that. She got the part. And you know, I don’t know. I don’t know," she shared.

However, when asked if she is interested to take a role in the MCU, she shot down the possibility as she admitted that she is a bigger DC fan.

Currey said, "I have to be honest, especially the comics, I am such a DC person. I really know DC moreso. And of course, Marvel is so… they bring out characters a lot of the times that people aren’t as familiar with, of course, with how we got Iron Man and everyone over there. But I don’t know…"

This is certainly an interesting story to hear since you can argue that Currey's career trajectory would have been different if she ended up playing Jean Grey in the X-Men films which would also mean that she will also have a bigger role later on in the Dark Phoenix film.

However, despite that, the actress still ends up joining the comic book property that she prefers more and it sounds like she is happy to be part of the part of the DCDC family at the moment. It would be interesting to see whether she remains involved in the new DCU franchise.
