Sharkboy and Lavagirl Confirmed to Return in Robert Rodriguez's New Netflix Film

There is little doubt that The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl in 3-D was one of those kid-friendly superhero films that was expected to get a sequel. Luckily, the long wait is over. Robert Rodriguez has just confirmed that the young superheroes will be back and all grown up in the new Netflix movie We Can Be Heroes.

Rodriguez recently took part in Collider's panel of directors for San Diego Comic-Con@Home where he teased on the return of Sharkboy and Lavagirl. Interestingly, the filmmaker revealed that the two actually ended up together after the events in the 2005 movie.

"Sharkboy and Lavagirl show up as superhero parents who now have a daughter who has shark and lava powers," Rodriguez said.

This isn't exactly what some of us were expecting but it's still great to know that the two got along well enough to have a superpowered kid. But will the original actors return to play the adult version of their characters? It was confirmed that Lavagirl actress Taylor Dooley will be part of We Could Be Heroes. However, it has not yet been revealed whether Twilight star Taylor Lautner will reprise his role as Sharkboy.

The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl in 3-D followed a young boy who created an imaginary world where superheroes existed. Interestingly, his dreams come true and he ends up helping the young heroes in the fight against Mr. Electric.

Although he doesn't direct We Can Be Heroes, Rodriguez produced the film and wrote the script. The movie features the children of Earth's superheroes teaming up to save the world from alien invaders who kidnapped their parents. The film has not yet been given a release date.
