We're just a week away from Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings' much-awaited theatrical premiere and so far, everyone is excited to see what the newest hero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe will bring to the table. No offense to the projects that have come before it but the Simu Liu-led martial arts epic is a breath of fresh air in the franchise that has long revolved around superpowered individuals, Gods, and magical beings.

Turns out. the film isn't just going to be your cookie-cutter superhero flick because apparently, it will also address the nagging issues Asians have been dealing with in the United States for the longest time, including racism. Speaking with Inverse, Shang-Chi writer Dave Callaham explained the lengths they went through in an effort to destroy racial stereotypes.

According to him, Shang-Chi will be a reflection of how Asians are seen outside of their territory, pointing out how the community has often been the subject of jokes and stereotyping that needs to end. He explains: "It's way easier to be violent or hateful to someone you don't see the same as you. With [the history of] Asian representation in the media, it's not just that we've been invisible for a long time. It's beyond that. We're the butt of jokes and stereotypes that are damaging. It's not nothing."

It's a great step towards changing the way a lot of people perceive Asians and people of color for that matter and I'm glad Marvel Studios is using its films as a platform to address the issues that should be talked about. Of course, there are still people who would look at it from a political perspective but let's be real, the times have changed and we no longer should be ignoring these issues that have existed for generations.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is scheduled to premiere in cinemas on September 3, 2021.
