There's no doubt that Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings helped elevate the careers of Simu Liu and Awkwafina taking them to the next level but just as the two Marvel Cinematic Universe newcomers are writing a new chapter in their respective Hollywood journeys, both actors have been plagued by controversy as of late and they all have something to do with things they've either said or done in the past.

Awkwafina recently drew major heat online for allegedly mocking black culture through her use of "blaccents" in her comedic skits and various movie roles, most notably as Goh Peik Lin in Crazy Rich Asians and Constance in Ocean's 8. Of course, cultural appropriation, especially in this day and age is a huge no-no so it's only natural that she received a ton of criticism for it.

The actress is quite active on social media but not once did she address the issue upfront. Now, Awkwafina is finally breaking her but her response to the issue would probably leave a lot of people dissatisfied. During a press junket interview (via Reuters Showbiz), the comedian-rapper said: "Um... You know, I'm open to the conversation. I think it really is something that I think is a little bit multi-faceted and layered, and so... yeah."

Both Simu and Awkwafina are in an unenviable spot given all the controversies they are facing. And with Cancel Culture threatening to affect their careers, it'll be interesting to see if they'll be able to continuously dodge the allegations some people have been throwing at them. As for Awkwafina, her response to the issue isn't as substantial as some people would have hoped for it to be and whether that's a good or bad thing, only time will tell.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is scheduled to premiere in cinemas on September 3, 2021.
