It was recently reported that Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton is set to direct Marvel/Sony's Spider-Man 4.

The film is currently aiming to begin shooting around early next year. Just like the previous films, Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal will serve as producers.

Chris McKenna and Eric Sommers, who co-wrote the previous installments, are also returning to pen the screenplay. Holland and Zendaya are currently working on new deals to officially sign on to the project.

This is exciting news for MCU fans as the search for a new filmmaker is finally over, and it is promising that they've tapped a familiar name to helm the project.

Cretton has proven in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings that he is a talented filmmaker and has a penchant for helming well-choreographed action sequences, which is what fans might want to see more of in the next film.

He is currently a Marvel Studios mainstay as he is also the executive producer and director of the first two episodes of the upcoming MCU series Wonder Man.

However, his involvement in the project also poses the question of whether this would mean that Shang-Chi 2 has stalled in development given that he is also attached to helm the film.

For now, fans can celebrate as this is an indication that the project is now officially full steam ahead and we should be hearing more updates in the coming months leading up to its production date.
