Shang-Chi Sequel Confirmed with Destin Daniel Cretton Directing


It's official: Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings is getting a sequel and Destin Daniel Cretton will direct the second film! In addition to that, the filmmaker has been confirmed to be developing a new Marvel Cinematic Universe series for Disney+!

Deadline reports that Destin Daniel Cretton has signed an exclusive multi-year overall deal with Disney's Marvel Studios and Hulu’s Onyx Collective. It also confirms that Cretton is currently developing a new MCU project that will air on Disney+. In addition to that, the filmmaker will be writing and directing the highly anticipated sequel to Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings.

This is certainly welcome news for fans who have been waiting for Shang-Chi 2. For now, the sequel is still in development but fans can rest assured that we'll get to see more of Simu Liu's superhero soon.

The overall deal also means that Cretton will be working on shows for Disney+ and the Onyx Collective. Although details have not yet been revealed, Cretton will have a string of TV shows to work on in the future.

Cretton was understandably thrilled to continue working with Disney and Marvel again. He also expressed excitement over being able to work with Onyx Collective and Freeform president Tara Duncan.

“Working on Shang-Chi with Kevin and the Marvel Studios team was one of the highlights of my life, and I couldn’t be more excited about Tara’s vision for Onyx Collective. I can’t wait to explore new stories and build new worlds with this community,” Cretton said.

Feige is also happy to continue working with Cretton. “Destin is an amazing collaborator who brought a unique perspective and skill to Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings. We had a fantastic time working together on the film and he has so many intriguing ideas for stories to bring to life on Disney+, so we’re thrilled to expand our relationship with him and can’t wait to get started,” he said.

The Shang-Chi sequel has not yet been given an official release date. Likewise, details on Cretton's other MCU series has not yet been revealed. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
