Shaman King is based on a 1998-2004 shonen manga. As is the case with many popular works, the manga received an anime adaptation while still ongoing, meaning that the ending the creators intended for us never made it to our screens. Instead, the reboot is faithful to the manga.

Shaman King follows Yoh Asakura, who fights to become the best among shamans an all-powerful being with the ability to summon spirits and manipulate the world according to their will. To achieve his dream, Yoh must come victorious out of a competition that only takes place once every 500 years.

Episode 28 gave much needed screen time to Tao Jun, a rather obscure character so far. In characteristic Yoh fashion, the main character plans to withdraw from the tournament to save Ren, which means interesting complications for the future.

International fans will have to wait before they can stream it online on their Netflix.
