Shakira has transcended the cultural boundaries after successfully making a name in the international music scene. The Colombian-born singer first made waves in her home country before entering the English-language market.

Dropping hits after hits and conquering the music charts, Shakira has become of the most successful singers of all time. Of course, that comes with huge paychecks, making her one of the wealthiest entertainers of today. So, how much is she now worth?

Shakira: Breaking into the Music Scene

Between the ages of 10 and 13, the now-45-year-old star was already receiving recognition for singing at local events in Barranquilla. She then met the local theater producer Monica Ariza, who helped launch her career.

Ariza tried to convince Sony Colombia record executive Ciro Vargas to let Shakira audition. However, she managed to impress Vargas, not Sony’s song and artist director.

So, Vargas arranged an audition for her in Bogota that Sony Colombia executives witnessed. After surprising them with her performance and singing three songs, she returned home with a three-record deal.

At 13 years old, Shakira launched her debut album, Magia, in 1991. It featured the song “Magia,” along with three other singles, a collection she made since she was just eight years old.

Though it did well on the radio and gave her the exposure she needed, it didn’t fare well commercially. It only sold 1,200 copies, though it was still followed by the release of her second album, Peligro, in 1993, which was also unsuccessful.

However, her career started to boom when she dropped Pies Descalzos in 1995 and Donde Estan Los Ladrones in 1998, which were both hits in Spanish-speaking countries.
