The hitmaker started singing at an early age by performing in school musical productions when she was just a preschool.

She then began taking piano lessons when a friend gifted her the musical instrument. At seven, she was only doing classical piano training and she continued to do so until she was 18.

She also took music, dance, theatre, and choir classes. At 13, she met manager Jeff Robinson, and he became her mentor.

She then signed with Clive Davis’ label, Je Records, and she started to promote her debut album on The Tonight Show and The Oprah Show.

Her first single, “Fallin’,” was then out in April 2001 and became No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, followed by her first studio album, Songs in a Minor, in June of the same year.

It received widespread critical acclaim and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, selling over 6.2 million copies in the U.S. alone.

The Success of Alicia Keys’ Next Albums and Her Other Projects

After the release of Alicia Keys’ debut album, her next releases, The Diary of Alicia Keys (2003) and As I Am (2007), also performed well on the charts.

The other albums she dropped are The Element of Freedom (2009), Girl on Fire (2012), Here (2016) and Alicia (2020).

For starters, the singer-songwriter also graced the small and big screens. She debuted in the movie Smokin’ Aces in 2007 and became a part of The Nanny Diaries (2007) and The Secret Life of Bees (2008).
