Alicia Keys has successfully made a name in the music scene, but this star is not only a singer. She’s also a songwriter, actress, and writer. With these on her list, what does the 41-year-old artist doesn’t know to do?
Alicia Keys has proven her status in the business with her several hit songs, sold-out albums, and a number of accolades. Of course, these things come with high paychecks, so how much is she worth today?
The Start of the Making of Alicia Keys
The hitmaker started singing at an early age by performing in school musical productions when she was just a preschool.
She then began taking piano lessons when a friend gifted her the musical instrument. At seven, she was only doing classical piano training and she continued to do so until she was 18.
She also took music, dance, theatre, and choir classes. At 13, she met manager Jeff Robinson, and he became her mentor.
He showed and educated her about the music industry. Later, he introduced her to A&R executive Peter Edge and put together song demos to offer to label executives.
She then signed with Columbia records after receiving a $26,000-white-baby-grand-piano offer. After signing, she continued her studies until she dropped out of college to focus on music full-time.
She then signed with Clive Davis’ label, Je Records, and she started to promote her debut album on The Tonight Show and The Oprah Show.
Her first single, “Fallin’,” was then out in April 2001 and became No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, followed by her first studio album, Songs in a Minor, in June of the same year.
It received widespread critical acclaim and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, selling over 6.2 million copies in the U.S. alone.
The Success of Alicia Keys’ Next Albums and Her Other Projects
After the release of Alicia Keys’ debut album, her next releases, The Diary of Alicia Keys (2003) and As I Am (2007), also performed well on the charts.
The other albums she dropped are The Element of Freedom (2009), Girl on Fire (2012), Here (2016) and Alicia (2020).
For starters, the singer-songwriter also graced the small and big screens. She debuted in the movie Smokin’ Aces in 2007 and became a part of The Nanny Diaries (2007) and The Secret Life of Bees (2008).
She was also seen on Saturday Night Live, Empire and The Late Late Show with James Corden. Moreover, she served as a judge in The X Factor Australia Season 4, The Voice Seasons 7, 11 to 12 and 13 and The Voice Germany Season 6.
Outside of the entertainment scene, she wrote Tears for Water: Songbook of Poems and Lyrics, published it in 2005 and became The New York Times bestseller. The book featured poems from her journals and unreleased lyrics.
She also has a memoir, More Myself: A Journey, which hit the shelves in March 2020. In addition, she co-owns The Oven Studios and co-founded KrucialKeys Enterprises.
With these several lists of works, no wonder Alicia Keys is worth $150 million, per Celebrity Net Worth.
