The live-action series adaptation of Shadow and Bone has finally been released and it certainly set things up for a possible sequel. So what can we expect in Season 2? Here's everything to need to know about the possible second season of the Netflix series.
What Happens in Shadow and Bone Season 1?
The first season of Shadow and Bone adapted Leigh Bardugo's novel of the same name. It followed Alina Starkov, an orphan who now serves as a cartographer trying to map out the world after the Shadow Fold divided the Kingdom of Ravka. While on a mission into the Unsea, Alina sees her friend Malyen Ostrov being attacked by one of the terrifying creatures known as the volka and accidentally unleashes her power to summon light.
Once she is revealed to be the Sun Summoner, Alina is taken to General Kirigan who hopes to help her control her powers by making her train as a Grisha. However, Kirigan may have other plans for Alina and it's all up to Mal to save her.
Meanwhile, in Ketterdam, three young criminals find themselves on a mission to capture the Sun Summoner, and their journey to find Alina sets them up for a grand plan to go into the Fold.
Has Shadow and Bone Been Renewed for Season 2?
For now, Netflix has not yet announced whether Shadow and Bone will be renewed for a second season. However, the season finale did tease on what could happen in a possible Season 2.
What Happens in Shadow and Bone Season 2?
In Shadow and Bone Season 1 Episode 8, Alina and Mal managed to escape the Darkling with the help of Kaz Brekker, Inej Ghafa, and Jesper Fahey. She then convinces them not to take her back to Ketterdam by giving Kaz some jewels.
Although they agree, the situation leaves Kaz, Inej, and Jesper with the dilemma of not having the Sun Summoner. However, they do end up on the same ship as the Grisha Heartrender Nina Zenik, who is eager to free her former druskelle companion Matthias Helvar. Since these two work together in Bardugo's other novel Six of Crows, there's a good chance that Shadow and Bone Season 2 will follow their story.
Will Alina and Mal Return in Shadow and Bone Season 2?
There's also a possibility that we'll get to see more of Alina, Mal, and the Darkling in the second season. For now, we'll have to wait for updates from Netflix on the show's renewal.
