Shadow and Bone: Archie Renaux Talks about Mal's Future in Season 2

He might not have been the most interesting character in the books but Malyen Oretsev is someone to truly watch out for in the Shadow and Bone series. After all, he's played by Archie Renaux who gave Mal depth in the live-action adaptation. So what can we expect for Mal and Alina Starkov in Season 2? Renaux has spoken up about his character's future in the Netflix show.

There is little doubt that we'll be seeing more of Mal and Alina in the second season of Shadow and Bone. After all, Season 1 concluded with the two parting ways with the Crows. Unbeknownst to everyone, The Darkling actually survived his ordeal in The Fold and emerged with terrifying new creatures that can walk in daylight.

So what's next for Mal and Alina? Renaux told Collider that he has "a lot of questions" about the future but "not so many answers." He then pointed out that there's still so much that needs to be explored in Shadow and Bone Season 2.

"A lot of the character relationships feel like they're still in the very early stages and have only just scratched the surface, so to speak. The circumstances have changed a lot, from where we see our characters at the beginning versus where we see them at the end," Renaux said. "That has an effect on the dynamics of a relationship, so there's so much more to explore."

But does this confirm that Shadow and Bone is getting a second season? For now, Renaux isn't sure but he has high hopes for the show's renewal. "I really hope that we get the opportunity to go and do that," he said about exploring the ongoing storyline.

There is little doubt that Shadow and Bone is one of the Netflix shows that fans are hoping would be getting multiple seasons. After all, Mal and Alina's story is just beginning and we have yet to see just how powerful Alina has become with the Stag's amplifier.

Shadow and Bone has not yet been renewed for a second season. In the meantime, Season 1 is currently streaming on Netflix.
