Sex Education Season 3 just premiered on Netflix and it did not disappoint! All eight episodes of the hit series were filled with shocking twists and exciting turns.
The finale episode was especially bittersweet because Otis (Asa Butterfield), Maeve (Emma Mackey), Jean (Gillian Anderson), Adam (Connor Swindells), and Eric (Ncuti Gatwa) didn't necessarily get the happy ending that they deserved in Sex Education Season 3.
What happened to Otis and Maeve in Sex Education Season 3?
Otis and Maeve's relationship has always been at the core of Sex Education. But it was in Season 3 that the beloved characters seemingly convinced fans that they would finally be together.
But just like most love stories, Otis and Maeve's relationship also happens to be a case of "the right person at the wrong time" because when they were finally on good terms, Maeve told Otis that she will be moving to the US.
It is unclear how long Maeve will stay there, but the distance will pose another challenge in her relationship with Otis. And only time will tell if their love for each is strong enough to weather this storm.
What secret is Jean hiding from Jakob?
Jean gave birth to an adorable baby girl in Sex Education Season 3. She suffered some serious complications while giving birth that caused her only son, Otis to worry.
Otis thought that he could lose his mom for good. So, imagine how elated he was when Jean survived her surgery.
But in the final moments of the series, Jean received the result of the paternity test, and she was shocked. The look on her face was all it took to confirm that Jakob (Mikael Persbrandt) is not her baby daddy.
Prior to this, Jean heard Otis talking to headmistress Hope (Jemima Kirke) about her struggles with her infertility. Hope revealed that she has been trying to conceive for the past three years, but it hasn't been successful.
Jean heard everything that Hope shared with her son. And it's possible that she could consider giving her newborn daughter, Joy up for adoption. After all, the baby's real father is not Jakob.
By the looks of it, this is one of the major storylines that will be explored in the show in Season 4.
Did Adam finally come out for Eric in Sex Education Season 3?
Adam and Eric's love story is another important storyline in Sex Education Season 3. In the previous seasons, Adam was depicted as a bully, who disliked gays, but he was eventually charmed by Eric and the two fell in love.
Unfortunately, Adam never got the chance to come out of the closet. And his relationship with Eric ended even before Adam could tell his mom the truth about his sexual preference.
In Sex Education Season 3, Eric cheated on Adam. During his conversation with his best friend, Otis, Eric said that he doesn't regret what he did. After Adam found out that Eric cheated on him, his feelings for him didn't seem to change.
However, his feelings weren't also strong enough to encourage him to finally tell the world that he's gay. But in a shocking twist, Adam's mom found out about her son's preference after Aimee told her that Adam and Eric are together.
Adam's mom seemed a tad bit emotional after hearing the truth about her son's preference. But she never had the chance to talk to Adam about it.
What happened to Moordale Secondary?
In another shocking twist, Moordale Secondary closed down after all the investors pulled out their funding. The students were also encouraged to look for another school for now. But is there really no hope for Moordale Secondary to reopen?
When Sex Education returns for Season 4, the students of Moordale Secondary will be enrolled in different schools. It would be exciting to see how the main characters will keep in touch when they no longer hang out in the same school.
Is Sex Education Season 4 confirmed?
During an interview with the Cosmopolitan UK, Butterfield said Season 4 is still up in the air.
"We don't know [whether there will be more.] It's out of our hands at this point. I wish I could tell you more, I genuinely don't know. I'd love to do a fourth season because we have so much fun on this show. At the same time, we've been doing it for three years now, and I'd be happy to say goodbye to these characters… We'll have to see," he said.
When asked if he's open to the idea of starring in a Sex Education spinoff, he said that he would be on board only if the storylines would be satisfying for fans.
For now, Sex Education fans have to wait for the official announcement regarding the fourth season. And there's a huge possibility that there will be new episodes next year because there's are still a lot of stories to explore with regards to Otis and Meave's relationship, Jean's baby drama, Adam and Eric's struggles, and more.
