Asa Butterfield stars as Otis Milburn, a socially awkward teenager who becomes Moordale Secondary’s student sex therapist. In Season 4, Otis is nervous about setting up his new clinic at Cavendish Sixth Form College. He’s also in a long-distance relationship with Maeve.

Asa Butterfield began his acting career at a very young age and first gained recognition in his leading role in the historical drama film The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas. He then starred in the films Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang, Hugo, Ender’s Game, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, and The Space Between Us.

Asa Butterfield also starred in the romantic comedy films Then Came You, alongside Game of Thrones’ Maisie Williams, and Time Freak, alongside another Game of Thrones actress, Sophie Turner.

Gillian Anderson as Jean Milburn

Gillian Anderson stars as Jean Milburn, Otis’ mother who’s a well-known sex therapist. She frequently has affairs with male suitors but does not maintain romantic relationships.

She later gets pregnant and has a complicated birth. In Season 4, Jean faces the challenge of raising a baby as a single mother.

Gillian Anderson is best known for her role as Dana Scully in The X-Files series. She also starred in the film The House of Mirth, the crime drama series The Fall, Netflix’s historical drama series The Crown, and Hulu’s “anti-historical” drama The Great.

Ncuti Gatwa as Eric Effiong

Ncuti Gatwa stars as Eric Effiong, Otis’ openly gay best friend who comes from a religious Ghanaian-Nigerian family. He’s been very supportive of Otis, and in Season 4, as they move to a new school, he prays they won’t be losers again.

Ncuti Gatwa has starred in Greta Gerwig’s Barbie and will star as the Fifteenth Doctor in the popular British sci-fi series, Doctor Who. He is the first Black actor to lead the series.

Emma Mackey as Maeve Wiley

Emma Mackey plays Maeve Wiley, a smart but troubled teenager. She befriends Otis and together they run a sex therapy clinic. Maeve becomes Otis’ love interest, and they have a long-distance relationship in Season 4 as she decides to study in the US.

Emma Mackey plays Physicist Barbie in Greta Gerwig’s Barbie. She also starred in the films Eiffel and Death on the Nile.

Connor Swindells as Adam Groff

Connor Swindells plays Adam Groff, a bully and the headmaster’s son. He later becomes Eric’s love interest, but they break up at the end of Season 3.

Connor Swindells is another Sex Education star who appeared in Greta Gerwig’s Barbie. He also starred in the films Emma and Barbarians and the series SAS: Rogue Heroes and Vigil.

Mimi Keene as Ruby Matthews

Mimi Keene stars as Ruby Matthews, a popular mean girl and the leader of the “Untouchables”. She becomes Otis’ love interest in the third season of Sex Education, but Otis chooses Maeve in the finale. In the trailer for Season 4, Ruby tells Otis that she wants them to be friends.

Mimi Keene starred in the British soap opera EastEnders and the films Tolkien and After Everything. She also voiced Eurayle, Stheno, and Medusa in the 2013 video game Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate and its 2014 sequel Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2.

Aimee Lou Wood as Aimee Gibbs

Aimee Lou Wood plays Aimee Gibbs, Maeve’s best friend and a former member of the Untouchables. Aimee was sexually assaulted on a bus and is in the process of healing. Actress Aimee Lou Wood shared that her character will be dealing with a lot in Season 4:

"Aimee particularly - her best friend's in America, she doesn't have a boyfriend for the first time ever, she's at a brand new school where she doesn't have any mates."

Aimee Lou Wood has starred in The Electrical Life of Louis Wain, Living, and On the Edge.

Kedar Williams-Stirling as Jackson Marchetti

Kedar Williams-Stirling plays Jackson Marchetti, the head boy at Moordale Secondary, a swimming champion, and Maeve’s ex. He later gives up on swimming due to the pressure placed upon him.

He also develops feelings for Cal, a non-binary new student at Moordale, but Cal says they should just be friends. In Season 4, Jackson is still struggling to get over Cal.

Kedar Williams-Stirling has starred in Shank, Montana, and Wolf Blood.

Chinenye Ezeudu as Vivienne Odusanya

Chinenye Ezedu stars as Vivienne Odusanya, a girl who tutors Jackson and later becomes his best friend. In Season 4, “Viv is totally thrown by the college’s student-led, non-competitive approach.” Chinenye Ezedu has appeared in The School for Good and Evil and The Stranger.

Dua Saleh as Cal Bowman

Dua Saleh plays Cal Bowman, a non-binary student from Minneapolis. In Season 4, they start to develop feelings for Aisha, a popular student at Cavendish. Dua Saleh is a singer-songwriter whose EPs include Nūr, Rosetta, and Crossover.

Alistair Petrie has appeared in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, The Bank Job, Rush, and The Duchess.

Dan Levy joins the Sex Education cast as Thomas Molloy, a famous author, and Maeve’s teacher. Dan Levy is widely known for his role as David Rose in the sitcom Schitt's Creek, which he co-created with his father, Eugene Levy.

He also appeared in Happiest Season, Haunted Mansion, Modern Family, Degrassi: The Next Generation, and HBO’s The Idol.

Thaddea Graham as Sarah “O” Owen
