Nearly three years following the polarizing conclusion of the Skywalker Saga, it looks like Lucasfilm is ready to usher in a brand new era for the Star Wars franchise. This week, a new report confirmed that the production company is working on a mystery project and now, more details regarding the film are being made public. By the looks of things, it could very well be the long-rumored Episode X.
As per a report from The Hollywood Reporter, Damon Lindelof and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy's upcoming Star Wars project will be a standalone film, contrary to the previous speculation that it will be the beginning of a brand new trilogy. However, the idea of it spawning several sequels isn't out of the question, especially if the new film becomes successful.
Additionally, the outlet reports that the film will take place post-The Rise of Skywalker and could see the return of several characters from the sequel trilogy. Of course, common sense would tell you that we can expect characters like Rey, Finn, and Poe to turn up in the said project but that isn't exactly a guarantee that they'll be its focal point.

Assuming production starts for Lindelof and Obaid-Chinoy's Star Wars movie in the next few years, it would be safe to say that it could hit cinemas before The Rise of Skywalker reaches its 10th anniversary. However, considering Lucasfilm's big-screen slate is seemingly in shambles right now, a delay wouldn't be surprising.
