The future of the Star Wars film franchise isn't as promising as fans hoped, with recent reports saying that we won't be getting a new full-length presentation until at least 2025. On top of that, concern within the fandom grew when Patty Jenkins' Rogue Squadron film was intriguingly removed from Disney's release calendar. While Lucasfilm hasn't revealed the film's status, many are under the impression that the anticipated flick is quietly being canned.

The production company has evidently shifted its focus to developing shows for Disney+ which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Still, Star Wars diehards are curious to see the future of the franchise's big-screen projects. Now, it looks like Lucasfilm is still actively working on movies and just announced that a new project is in the works.

Deadline reports that a "secret" Star Wars film is being developed to be written by Damon Lindelof and directed by Ms. Marvel's Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy who helmed Episodes 4 and 5 of the hit MCU series. The report adds that Lindelof will be joined by a yet-to-be-named writer to pen the film's script. So far, key details about the film are being kept under wraps but could it be the long-rumored follow-up to 2019's The Rise of Skywalker? I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Speculation surrounding Star Wars Episode X has been running high for a couple of years now, with a lot of people expecting Rey to continue her journey after being "anointed" as a Skywalker. But considering the gap between Star Wars trilogies which typically takes decades to be released, it would be safe to assume that Episode X is still a few years away.

Meanwhile, every Star Wars film in existence is available to stream exclusively on Disney+.
