Check Out Fantastic New Trailer for Alita: Battle Angel

As promised, 20th Century Fox has dropped a new trailer for Alita: Battle Angel and the visuals are nothing short of spectacular.

Here's the official description:

From visionary filmmakers James Cameron (AVATAR) and Robert Rodriguez (SIN CITY), comes ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL, an epic adventure of hope and empowerment. When Alita (Rosa Salazar) awakens with no memory of who she is in a future world she does not recognize, she is taken in by Ido (Christoph Waltz), a compassionate doctor who realizes that somewhere in this abandoned cyborg shell is the heart and soul of a young woman with an extraordinary past.

As Alita learns to navigate her new life and the treacherous streets of Iron City, Ido tries to shield her from her mysterious history while her street-smart new friend Hugo (Keean Johnson) offers instead to help trigger her memories. But it is only when the deadly and corrupt forces that run the city come after Alita that she discovers a clue to her past – she has unique fighting abilities that those in power will stop at nothing to control. If she can stay out of their grasp, she could be the key to saving her friends, her family and the world she's grown to love.

Just in case you didn't know, Alita: Battle Angel is actually an adaptation of an original manga called GUNM/Battle Angel Alita by Yukito Kishiro. The movie promises a star-studded cast; aside from Salazar and Waltz, the movie also has appearances from Jennifer Connelly, Mahershala Ali, Ed Skrein, and Jackie Earle Haley.

I'll be honest, the movie has all the trappings of a typical YA novel—dystopian future, a girl with special abilities, adults she can't trust, etc.—but the visuals alone make for an interesting spectacle. Just looking at Alita's robot hands are impressive, I can't imagine what the rest of the film is going to look like.

Though Hollywood has had a bad history with adapting anime, that hasn't stopped audiences from getting their curiosity piqued. Let's hope Rodriguez and Cameron have something special in their hands with Alita.

Alita: Battle Angel hits theaters Feb. 14, 2019.
