Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes had an enduring bond that it made total sense for Captain America to offer his shield to him. However, Avengers: Endgame revealed that older Steve passed this on to Sam Wilson instead, which got some fans disappointed. But for Sebastian Stan himself, Steve made the right choice.
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Stan explained why he isn't the next Captain America and why the Falcon deserved the shield in the first place. The actor thinks older Steve had the "desire" to restart his life and that he's not going to put Bucky through that too. For both him and his best friend to live their lives in a way.
"I don't think there's a desire or any conflicted thoughts about taking on that mantle," Stan added. "Sam, to me, was always the clear man to take on that mantle for numerous reasons, which also comes with so much more baggage that's going to be explored in the show."
So not only did old Steve did this as a gift to his best friend Bucky, Stan thinks Captain America gave the shield to Sam to be able to establish more stories about the Falcon too, some of which will be explored in Disney's The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
So for those who were hoping to see Sebastian Stan's Bucky as the next Captain America, know that the actor himself thinks its the best for the three characters. Needless to say, fans can't wait to see the pair as a team and for Sam's journey in taking on the mantle.
The Falcon and The Winter Soldier has not been given an official release date yet.
