Samuel L. Jackson Hits Back at Quentin Tarantino's Comment on Marvel Actors Not Being Movie Stars

There is little doubt that people have a lot to say about Quentin Tarantino's comment claiming that Marvel actors are not "movie stars" because it is their characters that fans want to see. Not surprisingly, a lot of people disagree with the filmmaker and that includes Pulp Fiction star Samuel L. Jackson, who was quick to point out that Tarantino isn't exactly right.

Samuel L. Jackson was recently a guest on The View where he addressed Quentin Tarantino's thoughts on comic book film actors (via Entertainment Weekly). The Captain Marvel star stated that their Marvel projects are not necessarily the true measure of whether an actor is a true movie star.

"It takes an actor to be those particular characters, and the sign of movie stardom has always been, what, ass-s in seats? What are we talking about?" Jackson said. "That's not a big controversy for me to know that apparently these actors are movie stars."

He then pointed out that a late MCU actor was a true star and that he was known for his most iconic role.

"Chadwick Boseman is Black Panther. You can't refute that, and he's a movie star," Jackson said.

It's not a huge surprise that Samuel L. Jackson doesn't agree with Quentin Tarantino. After all, playing Nick Fury is just one of the many iconic roles he has had in his long career. The same can be said about most of the Marvel Cinematic Universe actors.

Tarantino had previously shared his thoughts on Marvel films and their actors.

“Part of the Marvel-ization of Hollywood is… you have all these actors who have become famous playing these characters, but they’re not movie stars. Right?” Tarantino said. “Captain America is the star. Or Thor is the star. I mean, I’m not the first person to say that. I think that’s been said a zillion times, you know, but it’s like, you know, it’s these franchise characters that become a star.”

Samuel L. Jackson will return as Nick Fury in Marvel's Secret Invasion which is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ in early 2023.
