Sam Esmail Provides New Details for Peacock's Upcoming Battlestar Galactica Series, Says It's Not a Reboot

NBC Universal's upcoming Battlestar Galactica series has fans pretty excited since we haven't seen these characters in a while. The sci-fi show was beloved by many and knowing that Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail would be involved means that we're in for some quality programming. Most of us assumed that this would be a Battlestar Galactica reboot since that is sort of a trend but Esmail has recently stated that it will not be one.

On Twitter, Esmail proceeds to explain how this will not be a reboot. Instead of "messing with perfection," Esmail claims that the new series will be set in the same universe as the old Battlestar Galactica show. This will apparently be a new story set in the old universe, though he didn't provide any more details after.

Fans seem to be pretty grateful for this, though a reboot wouldn't have been the worst idea in the world. After all, not everyone has seen the original and there wouldn't be anything wrong with trying to appeal to newer audiences. Then again, Esmail is pretty talented, so there's a solid chance that the show will be inviting to newcomers while also giving plenty of lore to old fans.

This writer wouldn't have minded a reboot but as long as the show is accessible for anyone, the setting shouldn't be a problem. It's arguable that too many franchises have been rebooted in the past few years so seeing this series keep its continuity should be of small comfort to many.

Battlestar Galactica doesn't have a release date yet but will be a part of NBC Universal's Peacock streaming service.
