Saban’s Power Rangers Reboot Synopsis Released as Filming Officially Starts

In the past couple of months, official news and promotions for Saban'sPower Rangers had been scarce. In October last year, the movie's official title and character names were announced. In between October and November, casting on the heroes were finalized. The next official news came 3 months later when Elizabeth Banks had been cast to play the central villain, Rita Repulsa. Now, finally, we're getting the Saban'sPower Rangers first official synopsis just as filming begins.

The new synopsis doesn't reveal much specifics, but if you're a ‘90s kid or are generally a fan of the heroes, you'll probably have a good idea of what's to come.

Saban's Power Rangers follows five ordinary high school kids who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove – and the world – is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover that they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so they will have to overcome their real-life issues and band together as the Power Rangers before it is too late.

From the looks of it, the reboot will pretty much the same as its source material, but with better special effects and probably better costumes. Although the actors and actresses playing the Power Rangers are fairly unknown, having Banks as the wicked Rita Repulsa looks rather interesting.

The main cast include Naomi Scott (Kimberly Hart/The Pink Ranger), Becky G. plays (Trini Kwan/The Yellow Ranger), R.J. Cyler (Billy Cranston/The Blue Ranger), Ludi Lin (Zack Taylor/The Black Ranger), and Dacre Montgomery (Jason Lee Scott/The Red Ranger). The film will be directed by Dean Israelite, who called the script a "mature but still playful" take of the original material.

Saban'sPower Rangers will hit theaters on March 24, 2017.
