Ryan Reynolds Praises Free Guy for Not Being Based on a Comic Book

Free Guy is one of the more interesting movies coming out next year, with Ryan Reynolds playing an NPC (non-playable character) in a video game that decides to take control. It's a situation fans often wonder about when it comes to discussing the medium and it's going to be interesting to see what this movie does with that setting, though we aren't sure how this will appeal to those that don't like video games.

During Brazil's CCXP (via ComicBook.com) Reynolds praised the film for a number of reasons, claiming that it is somewhat similar to Back to the Future when it comes to wish-fulfillment. I personally think it's more similar to The Lego Movie since it focuses on a regular joe who realizes that there is more to life than what he's been doing. There's even an attractive rebellious girl who helps him out.

Reynolds is also proud of the fact that this is an original idea not based on a comic book or any other source material. This is pretty great news since modern movies really are lacking in original stories these days.

"I mean, it's not every day that you get to make a movie isn't based on a comic book, or based on a graphic novel, or based on anything. It was just an original idea that we got to take the ball and run with, and it was a dream come true. It's my favorite film that I've ever done in my life, and I hope I get to make three or four more."

Will Free Guy be a good movie? I think it looks kinda lame but that's only one trailer. The movie is slated for a July 3, 2020 release.
