The world is still hoping for yet another movie featuring the Merc with a Mouth just being the most relatable superhero. However, Ryan Reynolds may have confirmed that we shouldn't hold our breath for Deadpool 3.
People have been talking about Hugh Jackman refusing to work on a Deadpool/Wolverine crossover in a recent interview with Sunday TODAY. However, there's an important detail that most of us missed when host Willie Geist asked Jackman about how Reynolds keeps asking the Logan star to return as Wolverine (via Cosmic Book News).
Geist started by saying, "I interviewed your buddy, Ryan Reynolds, and he said, 'There probably won't be another standalone Deadpool movie.'" The host then changes the subject by bringing up Reynolds' campaign to bring Jackman back as Wolverine.
It's a shocking revelation for fans who are hoping that Deadpool 3 is the next thing that 20th Century Fox should be working on. However, it looks like the studio only has plans for X-Force, which will be about Wade Wilson's teammates. Although it's still possible that Reynolds will show up in the film, it probably won't be considered a sequel to Deadpool 2.
Fans have been hoping that Deadpool 3 will be the crossover featuring Wolverine. Unfortunately, Jackman's refusal to reprise the role and the lack of plans for a sequel are beginning to make it clear that Wade will be taking a break from more standalone movies.
Reynolds will return as Wade in Once Upon a Deadpool, the PG-13 cut of Deadpool 2 that will be released later this year. The film is expected to screen in theaters worldwide during the holiday season.
