Ryan Reynolds Explains Why Marvel is Taking So Long With Deadpool 3

Disney may have long since completed its acquisition of 21st Century Fox, yet Marvel has yet to announce its plans for X-Men, the Fantastic Four, Deadpool, and all of the other mutant properties that it's received after the House of Mouse's merger.

Right now, the Deadpool film franchise continues to float in limbo as Marvel keeps mum about its plans for the Merc with a Mouth. While Ryan Reynolds has teased that the franchise will definitely continue under Marvel Studios, there have been concerns that the next Deadpool movie might not even happen.

Riding on this idea, Reynolds decided to joke about the absence of Deadpool 3 by celebrating the anniversary of the Deadpool leak on Twitter. Before Deadpool made its big theatrical premiere in 2016, test footage of the film was leaked online. Now, Reynolds is turning it all into a joke for Deadpool 3.

"It's why the next #Deadpool film is taking so long. Still trying to solve this. Happy #Leakaversary," the Merc with a Mouth wrote on his post on Twitter.

It's such a shame that Marvel still doesn't have any concrete plans for the Deadpool franchise. The Deadpool movies have been wildly successful – a game-changer for R-Rated Hollywood films. Disney would do well capitalizing on the franchise. Unfortunately, it seems like Marvel is up to its arms working on Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, especially now that the COVID-19 pandemic has been pushing back the studio's releases.

Phase 4 of the MCU begins when Black Widow premieres on November 6, 2020.
