Ryan Gosling Reportedly In Talks To Play Lex Luthor For DC’s Elseworlds

It might not be shocking news, but ever since Warner Brothers started working on Joaquin Phoenix's Joker movie which is set outside of the DC Extended Universe, there have been rumors that the studio might actually be developing an Elseworlds live-action franchise.

Surprisingly enough, there's been talk that Ryan Gosling might actually be cast to play Superman villain Lex Luthor in DC's Elsworlds.

According to a rumor circulating on 4chan (via Cosmic Book News) Golden Globe Award-winning actor Ryan Gosling is currently in final talks to play Lex Luthor in an Elseworlds movie. The rumor also claims that English director Joe Wright, known for the film Darkest Hour, will be directing the project with a script that he had written together with his Darkest Hour co-writer, Anthony McCarten. McCarten also wrote Academy Award winning Bohemian Rhapsody and The Theory of Everything.

While rumors about an Elseworlds franchise might not seem new to DC fans, this report regarding Gosling sounds a bit surprising. It's hard to imagine the actor in the role, though we're pretty sure that the Blade Runner 2049 star can take the challenge.

If the rumors are proven true, then we definitely can't wait to see what kind of Elseworlds films Warner Brothers is planning to develop for DC. The studio could try adapting Mark Waid and Alex Ross' classic Kingdom Come series, or they could try for Mark Millar's Superman: Red Son. Maybe the studio could even try for Justice League: The Nail.

Of course, seeing how this report comes from 4chan, we'd advise fans to take the news with a large grain of salt. It's lovely to speculate, but let's not take anything seriously until WB comes out with official confirmation.
