Russo Brothers Say Secret Wars Movie Would be Even 'Bigger' Than the Infinity Saga

X-Men, Fantastic Four, and several other Marvel characters have yet to make their debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While the Infinity Saga has come to a close with Avengers: Endgame, these characters could eventually be the focus of another big crossover event. Marvel fans have long been wanting to see Secret Wars on the big screen, with directors Joe and Anthony Russo admitting that it's the only project that'll tempt then to return to the franchise.

In a recent interview with Bro Bible, the Russo Brothers talked about their journey in the MCU and what it would take to bring them back. "You know, I read that when I was 10 or 11, and it was the scale of getting all of the heroes together," Joe said. "It was one of the first major books to do that — that was really event-storytelling to me at its finest. And what happens when you put all of those personalities together."

Joe adds that he "liked" the idea of villains teaming up with heroes, pointing that he and Anthony "like complicated relationships between heroes and villains," especially the latter who believe they're heroes in their own stories, "so it's all sort of built into this notion of Secret Wars."

The director then admits that executing something on the scale of the Infinity War movie was "directly related" to dreaming of making Secret Wars, which is actually "even larger in scale."

"It would be the biggest movie you could possibly imagine," Anthony adds, which makes them excited about the story. "The ambition of it is even bigger than the ambition of the Infinity Saga."

As exciting as it is to see this happen, it'll likely take a few years before there are enough characters in the MCU to adapt Secret Wars. That said, the idea of helming such a massive project is seemingly something that the pair couldn't pass up, which gives fans a glimmer of hope that the directors would eventually return to direct another epic MCU movie.
