RuPaul's Drag Race Season 15 will premiere on a new network, MTV. From Logo to VH1 to MTV, why is the iconic reality TV series making a move?
The Drag Race franchise started on the queer network Logo in 2009 until RuPaul's Drag Race became a worldwide phenomenon, with different iterations globally. With its success all over the globe, the move is said to be part of ViacomCBS's planned global expansion of the franchise.
The Shift to MTV
According to Entertainment Weekly, aside from moving to the network, the show will also have international spinoffs in Brazil, Germany, and Mexico, which will air on the countries' respective MTV and Paramount+ networks.
There will also be a new Global All Stars competition coming.
"World of Wonder is delighted to expand its partnership with MTV Entertainment Studios," World of Wonder CEOs Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato said in a press statement.
"Drag Race is about universal themes of love, self-expression, and acceptance, and there has never been a more important time than now for these ideas to be expressed internationally," they continued. "Thanks to Chris McCarthy, Nina L. Diaz, and their incredible team at MTV Entertainment Studios, we are honored to continue our mission to showcase the artistry of drag in different languages and cultures around the world."
