Rumor: EA Might Lose The License To Publish Star Wars Games

Star Wars Battlefront II might be a fun multiplayer shooter but its notorious for EA's overuse of microtransactions from the beta, which were temporarily removed at launch and will be added again in a few months. The game has been marred by controversy, with EA and DICE not yet recovering from the fan backlash, resulting in the shooter not meeting its expected sales mark.

With all this in mind, fans might be happy to know hear a rumor regarding Disney and Lucasfilm giving the Star Wars license to another publisher.

According to Cinelinx, Lucasfilm had a stern talk with EA and DICE about the whole debacle. Despite a contract to publish these games, Disney and Lucasfilm have reportedly shopped the license to other big-name gaming companies. Ubisoft and Activision were the two names that were supposedly contacted.

Fans might have to take this with a pinch of salt since there's no official statement regarding this but it wouldn't be a huge surprise if this ended up happening. Battlefront II has essentially been given the stink eye by most gamers, even if it did sell reasonably well. While there is still free DLC planned for the game, players could end up seeing this franchise go to another publisher if things go south.

Star Wars Battlefront II is available now on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
