Rumor: Bumblebee Director Being Eyed to Helm GOTG Vol. 3

Everyone was excited to see James Gunn start working on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 until he was suddenly fired from the project by Disney earlier this year. Despite a lot of support from the fans, it looks like Marvel isn't bringing Gunn back, and now everyone is wondering on who will come on as director for the third GOTG movie.

According to the DisInsider, Bumblebee director Travis Knight is being eyed to helm the conclusion of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. For now he's just in the shortlist, but I can imagine a lot of people getting excited to have him as director.

For one, Knight has proven himself to have a stunning eye for visuals; just look at his work on Kubo and the Two Strings. The trailer for Bumblebee also looks fantastic, but we'll have to wait until December to see what the main audience thinks of Knight's work.

Personally, I think the content of Kubo was a tad corny, but the world was beautiful and very dazzling to look at. At least with Guardians 3, Marvel has promised to keep James Gunn's script–albeit it will be going through a few rewrites once the director is officially chosen.

As a fan of Gunn's work with the films, some part of me is holding out that Marvel will eventually re-hire him after all this commotion dies down. With the film being delayed, I'm telling myself that they're just waiting for everyone to forget his firing ever happened before they get him back onboard.

Like I said, this is just my wishful thinking. I'm still open to having a totally new director come onboard.

No release date has been set for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Catch Bumblebee in theaters Dec. 21.
